Baloch Students Action Committee
Sohail and Fassieh Baloch, who were students at Balochistan University, went missing from the university hostel two years ago. A month long sit-in protest camp had held at University, later postponed due to surety of Government to release them within fifteen days. After two years completion they are still missing. To demand their recovery, the organization held a three-day protest camp at University of Balochistan Quetta. And demonstration in Karachi, Khuzdar, Hub, Turbat, Uthal and Quetta. On the third day of protest camp, a large rally emerged from the University of Balochistan to Quetta Press Club. A large number of people from different social backgrounds, including students and activists, participated in the protests.During the protests, the participants stated that enforced disappearances in Balochistan have become a severe humanitarian crisis persisting for many decades. This distressing humanitarian situation has created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in Baloch society. The continuous increase in enforced disappearances reflects the unwillingness of both federal and provincial authorities to address this humanitarian issue seriously. The participants emphasized that while enforced disappearances of Baloch students continue to rise, the authorities are also subjecting peaceful students to harassment and profiling through various means, including educational institutions. Baloch students have been victims of enforced disappearances for many years, which is a deeply disturbing act. Now, even educational institutions do not provide a safe haven for students. The responsibility for the enforced disappearances of students from educational institutions lies with the university administration, which is involved in harassing students through various means.
Baloch youth have been subjected to oppression and brutality for many years, and this has now escalated. Incidents like these have led parliamentary parties in Balochistan to attempt point-scoring on the issue of missing persons. On one hand, false hopes are being given to the families of missing individuals, and on the other hand, this serious issue is being exploited for political gains in electoral campaigns. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of conscious individuals to use their influence to sensitize the national institutions, as only they have the power to address this grave issue. Otherwise, thousands of Baloch youth like Sohail and Fassieh will continue to suffer the consequences of their unacknowledged actions in prisons. The participants further stated that it is imperative for the Baloch people to unite as one voice and one language against this humanitarian crisis. Rather than relying on empty promises from international organizations, human rights, or judicial justice, we must choose the path of peaceful resistance for our own people, because the world only listens to those who can speak. We urge all nations, including the Baloch people, to stand with us on this grave humanitarian issue. In the protest, the participants demanded the recovery of all missing Baloch individuals, including Sohail and Fassieh Baloch.
