BSAC Karachi Zone Organised Literary Program in Honour of Ghulam Hussain Shohaz

Baloch Students Action Committee

Baloch Students Action Committee, Karachi Zone KU Unit organised a literary program in memory of Waja Ghulam Hussain Shohaz to honour his legacy of literary works. The program consisted of various segments, including speeches, research paper, and a poetry session. The program was attended by a number of students, including Rehman Baloch— the central committee member of the Baloch Students Action Committee— and Dr. Ramzan Bamari, the HoD of the Persian Department at the University of Karachi, as the guest of honour.

The program began with the presentation of a research paper on the life and literary contributions of the renowned Balochi poet Ghulam Hussain Shohaz. The paper portrayed him as a distinguished poet of his time and stated that what made him exceptional was his classical and modern style of poetry writing. Through his poetry, Shohaz portrayed the beauty of his land, the pain endured by his nation, and the contemporary circumstances of Balochistan and Baloch society.

Following the research paper, Dr. Ramzan Bamari delivered his speech, where he discussed the exile period of Waja Ghulam Hussain’s life. Despite being exiled at a young age, Shohaz never lost love for what he left behind, Bamari emphasised. His love for his motherland grew stronger, and his poetic verses illustrated his nation and land, he further maintained. Dr. Bamari, while further defining Shohaz, stated that Shohaz’s poetry highlights his deep connection with Balochi traditions, culture, and values of life as a nation.

The next speech was delivered by Saud Baloch, who at the beginning spoke on Shohaz’s straightforward nature in his literary works. He observed that Shohaz consistently inspired his people to love their land and remain loyal to the Balochi language and culture. Saud explained Shohaz’s exceptional command of satirical poetry, which was a major literary aspect in which Ghulam Hussain excelled. His satirical poems were narrations of criticism and lessons aimed at providing positive change to Baloch society.

In the final speech, Rehman Baloch, central member of the Baloch Students Action Committee, discussed the organisation’s efforts to commemorate Baloch figures through such programmes. He explained that these initiatives are a practical way of honouring the legacy of literary, educational, and intellectual figures of the Baloch nation. Such a program is a practice to preserve the contributions and ideas of these figures and familiarise the youth with their role in the intellectual development of Baloch society. The organisation considers it a vital responsibility to remember such honourable figures like Ghulam Hussain Shohaz, Atta Shad, Ustad Saba Dashtiyari, Azaat Jamaldini, Ghamkhwar Hayat, Mir Gul Khan Naseer, and many others who have made significant contributions to Baloch society, literature, and the nation, he further explained.

Following the conclusion of the speeches, the program moved to its second segment: a poetry session in which students recited their poems. The program concluded with the end of the poetry session.
